Fluorescence refers to the intensity of colored light such as blue or yellow light emitted by diamonds under strong ultraviolet light. What does this sentence imply? That is to say, we cannot feel it under natural light, unless in the summer sun with strong ultraviolet light, diamonds with strong fluorescence can be felt by naked eyes.
1. According to GIA standards, the fluorescence of loose diamonds is divided into five levels: Non (none), F (weak), Med (medium), S (strong), and VS (very strong). The fluorescence level of diamonds has a great impact on the price of diamonds with D-G color greater than 50 points and above VS grade. Medium fluorescence will affect the price by about 5%-10%, strong fluorescence will be 30% cheaper or even more, and especially strong fluorescence is basically about 35% lower than the price of no fluorescence.
2. The stronger the fluorescence, the greater the impact on the color that is closer to colorless. It will produce a hazy feeling under light (clearer under a 10x microscope), affecting the brightness and transparency of high-color diamonds. For diamonds below J color, although blue fluorescence can make diamonds appear white, the price will still be 5%-10% lower. Small diamonds below 20 points basically have little impact on the price. Diamonds above 20 points have a certain price impact. Domestic testing centers do not grade and comment on fluorescence due to the level of testing, but because most diamonds are imported, the price changes according to the pricing standards of the international market. Therefore, many diamonds with strong fluorescence and diamonds without fluorescence are sold at the same price, which is a big loss for consumers.
3. In order to ensure that your diamond price is worth the money, if your diamond is above 20 points, you must ask the seller about the fluorescence grade of the diamond, and compare the transparency of the diamond under strong light and soft light after receiving the goods. If the transparency of the diamond becomes much worse under strong light, then your diamond is likely to be strongly fluorescent. If the cobalt stone has extremely strong fluorescence, it will look foggy under light.
4.It is recommended to buy diamond engagement rings. Pay attention to yellowish diamonds after I and J colors. Appropriate blue fluorescence can cover up part of the yellow color of the diamond, making the diamond look whiter and more affordable. However, do not buy diamonds with strong fluorescence. Pay special attention to high-quality diamonds above G color. Try not to have fluorescence, even if it is weak fluorescence.
